Somatic Experiencing® in Vancouver
Heal from Trauma at your own Pace
We guide you to gently release stress, tension, and trauma held in your body – without needing to relive the past.
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-focused approach to healing trauma. It helps you reconnect with your body, release stored tension, and restore balance in your nervous system—gently and at your own pace.
Developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine, this method is backed by over 45 years of clinical practice. It draws from neuroscience, psychology, biology, and traditional healing methods to support recovery from trauma, stress, and chronic symptoms.
Instead of revisiting painful memories, Somatic Experiencing® works by guiding your attention to physical sensations. This helps your body complete survival responses that may have been interrupted during overwhelming experiences. Over time, this can reduce symptoms like anxiety, chronic pain, and emotional reactivity.
When your nervous system is more regulated, you feel safer, calmer, and more present in your daily life.

How Somatic Experiencing® Works?
The Somatic approach facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.
Creating a balanced regulated nervous system allows us to settle to more quiet states for digestion and rest. These states are required for optimal health and vitality. It also helps our systems recharge for the next time we need to respond to a threat and put a new demand our bodies for energy.

Frequently Asked Questions
For any questions or inquiries, feel free to call us or schedule an appointment.
What is Somatic Experiencing® like in an actual session?
Somatic Experiencing® sessions are designed to meet you where you are. We all have a story of what is not going well in our lives. In an SE session, I will listen to your story and within the narrative, I will point our the parts of the story that are unknown to your psyche. Some elements of stories are embedded in our bodies. We all have fears, automatic thoughts about the world, behavioural habits that come out in certain situations without us being aware of them. SE sessions intend to bring awareness to how your body processes these unconscious patterns. We will not only talk about the story but also explore the mechanism of how your body processes your experiences.
Do I need to have a trauma diagnosis to benefit from this?
I do not work with diagnoses. I do not diagnose people and when people come with a diagnosis, I take that into consideration but I focus on the human in front of me and try to understand the life experience of that person. So you do not need any doctors notes or diagnoses to work with SE. You will bring your story and we will together analyze how your body responds to the experience you are bringing up. What are the unnoticed elements of the body related to this story. How can we support the body to feel more resilient around this experience.
Is Somatic Experiencing® covered by insurance in Vancouver?
Somatic Experiencing® sessions are not covered by insurance. What is covered is the service provided by an RCC. I am an RCC registered with BCACC. Please check with your insurer and ask what kind of coverage they provide for RCC sessions.
Can this help with physical symptoms like pain or fatigue?
Your body has its innate intelligence and has developed strategies to cope with the experiences that you have been living. Fatigue is one of the myriad of symptoms that your body might be having in order to deal with a current situation. In an Somatic Experiencing® session we would be interested in understanding the reasons behind the symptom. Then we would try to provide the space or the opportunity for the body to complete what has not been completed that results in the symptom. Then your body would not need to hang on to the symptom.
