This month we asked our Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner and Acupuncturist, Kelly Zeng, to tell us about the cosmetic treatment that has increased in popularity due it’s impressive results and holistic, natural approach – Facial Acupuncture.
Q: What is Facial Acupuncture?
A: Facial Acupuncture is a specialized form of cosmetic acupuncture where extra-fine needles (micro-needles) are inserted into the acupuncture points along the face to increase microcirculation, stimulate lymphatic system and collagen production of the face. It helps to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells, nourish the skin from inside out.
Q: What are the benefits of this type of acupuncture?
A: Cosmetic acupuncture can help to:
- minimize fine lines and wrinkles,
- improve the elasticity of facial and neck muscles,
- moisturize the skin,
- improve skin colour and complexion,
- reduce the appearance of stress,
- enhance the natural ‘glow’ of the face.
In addition to those visible benefits, clients also experience reduced tension, improvement in sleep quality and a greater sense of energy and well-being.
Q: What to expect during the Facial Acupuncture treatment?
A: After an initial consultation, I will provide an individualized treatment plan for my clients depending on their needs and goals. Each treatment includes:
- applying organic hydrating aloe gel,
- gentle facial acupressure,
- facial Guasha,
- micro-needles around face and body,
- relaxing head acupressure,
- back cupping.
The treatment not only brings more youthfulness to the skin but also improves wellness on a holistic level to the body’s ecosystem.
Q: How many treatments are needed?
A: Unlike Botox or dermal fillers, cosmetic acupuncture is more of a long-term approach to facial rejuvenation. Most clients can expect a brighter complexion after the first treatment and start noticing a real difference from the third treatment. Therefore, three sessions weekly followed up by five sessions bi-weekly are recommended in the beginning to obtain better results. Afterwards, the treatment can be done every three or four weeks to keep your look fresh. Treatments can start at any age, it is a natural and safe alternative.
